The Kano State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr Dahiru Hashim, has formally resigned his membership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), with immediate effect.
SolaceBase reports that Dr Hashim made his decision known in a resignation letter dated Friday, January 23, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the NNPP in Gobirawa Ward, Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to him, the decision was taken in good faith and in the overall best interest of Kano State.
Dr Hashim explained that his action was carefully considered and aligns with the leadership direction and strategic priorities of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, under whose administration he currently serves.

The Commissioner expressed deep appreciation to the NNPP for the opportunity, platform, and support given to him during his time with the party.
He acknowledged the goodwill of the party’s leadership and members across Gobirawa Ward and beyond, noting that his period of engagement with the NNPP was marked by cooperation and mutual respect.
Dr Dahiru Hashim’s resignation comes hours after Kano State governor Abba Kabir Yusuf dumped the NNPP.
