The Kano State Government has formally strengthened community security with the deployment of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps, equipped with operational vehicles, motorcycles, and trained personnel across the state.
The event attracted top government officials, traditional rulers, and security stakeholders. It featured the arrival of members of the State Security Council, the Chief Judge of Kano State, the Emirs of Kano, Karaye, Gaya, and Rano, as well as the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore.
The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, and the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, were also present at the ceremony.
Activities at the event included inspection of the parade, and security drills by members of the Neighbourhood Watch Corps.
In a briefing on the operational capacity of the corps, it was disclosed that a total of 2,000 personnel have been engaged, comprising 1,870 males and 130 females. To enhance mobility and facilitate effective responses, the corps has been equipped with 440 motorcycles and 84 operational vehicles for use during its security activities across the state.
Speaking at the occasion, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, retired AVM Ibrahim Umaru, emphasized the role of community-based security in supporting conventional security agencies.
Goodwill messages were delivered by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Security and Intelligence, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi; the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II; and the Governor of Katsina State, Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda.
Kano State government House correspondent Adamu Dabo said the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, before officially handing over the operational vehicles and motorcycles to the Neighbourhood Watch Corps.
